Pin it for later

I have talked about moisturizers, exfoliation, cleansers, so naturally, it's time to progress to primers. I know, ain't nobody got time for all that every morning. I agreed until I started using primers. Besides the obvious benefit of having your makeup stay on your face, it is so so much easier to remove it all if you wear primer. It acts as a layer of protection between your makeup and your skin so that your skin will absorb as little makeup as possible theoretically while letting it breathe. So my advice is, use a primer. I know, so many beauty products, your wallet has other priorities, so does mine. You know I'm a fan of cheap but good products so here is my top list of all I have tried. I have actually spent a good amount of time scouring the shops and trying on primers but keep in mind that primers have to match both your skin and your foundation. When you want to buy a primer try some on your hand somewhere, let it dry and then try to spread your makeup and concealer over it to see how it looks and feels. There are my choices but have you tried any of them? Do share your own favourite primers as I am always on the lookout for new products!

My skin is oily combination, sensitive and acne prone and my foundation is L'oreal Infallible matte

(Disclaimer: This is a long post, the titles are the product links some of which are affiliate, I have bought everything and these are my own views)

1. Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser Primer

I reach for this the most, but it isn't the best primer on the list. It does have a blur effect that makes your pores and fine lines disappear but you can feel it on your skin. I feel like I have a layer of silicone over my face, but you do get used to it. It's a clear primer of medium consistency. Also, it is not the best for oily skin types. Then why does it make the list? Because I have acne. The consistency of such primers covers acne and fills pores and scars and scabs. This is basically the reason I prefer silicone like primers. The foundation goes on so smoothly after applying this primer. Does expand the makeup wear duration but could do better. Good for everyday use when you don't need the perfect makeup for many hours. Would I buy it again? Yes.

This is the first primer I tried. It might as well be a slightly worse dupe for the Sephora primer. I use this under my eyes and on the laugh lines because that is where my makeup breaks and wrinkles. Also because I use a stick concealer and the primer works better for the stick than my liquid foundation. Feels nice on the skin, does cover up the acne scabs but the consistency is very thick so you need a lot of product and it isn't the easiest thing to work with. Nevertheless, it is cheap, especially since Avon has offers all the time, and it is a decent primer. Would I buy it again? Probably not, unless there was a good offer, I prefer the Sephora one.

This right here is the best one on the list for those special occasions you absolutely need your makeup to stay intact all day. Blurring effect, fills lines pores and covers acne, pleasant feeling on the skin, does wonders for the foundation. The consistency is of medium thickness, not as thick as the Avon one. Easy to work with and because of the colour it also acts as a skin corrector, if you don't want coverage you can use this alone just for the mattifying effect. Holly grail for demanding makeup days. Would I buy again?YES! It is slightly more expensive than the rest but still affordable.

This isn't a silicone based primer! As much as I love the rest of them, sometimes I feel like my skin is suffocating. Especially during summer, I prefer something more lightweight if I am to wear makeup. This is one of those "let's give it a try" impulsive purchases I haven't regretted. Light consistency it spreads like a moisturizer and leaves your skin matte for the day. It also is hydrating, something I can't claim for the other primers. I sometimes go out wearing just this, no makeup, and I forget I have it on instantly. It doesn't do much for scabs/scars/lines etc but if you like the feeling of it you can combine this all over your face and use another primer on the spots you like covered. Does help with the longevity of your makeup. The only thing to be careful about is to let it dry completely before applying your foundation. Will I buy it again?Probably yes.

Last on this list but Holly Grail of eye primers. I have used cheap and expensive eyeshadows and they crease! Unless I use this underneath. I can't praise this enough, my oily lids thank Essence for creating this product. If I was to go out my eyeshadow ended up gone in a matter of hours. I have tried this primer on a hot Greek summer day/night and it didn't budge. I just use it whenever I am to wear eyeshadow. And it is so so cheap and covers everything. Bonus point, it helps blend the eyeshadows seamlessly. A major drawback is it doesn't have enough shades. I would prefer a bit more diversity. Would I buy it again?Absolutely.

Hello sweetie! You noticed I changed the name riiiiight? It has been Spotlights on the Redhead for so long, but I felt like it no longer represented me appropriately. What is BadWolf and what does it mean to me though? I'm a BIG Doctor Who fan and when the storyline of the BadWolf and the Moment came to a conclusion, I kind of started using it as a nickname in every game I played. I thought this name was a good way to start merging all my passions. Now that this is out of the way, let's get to the actual subject, seasons mess up our skin.

There are many ways to balance the changes in a way that your skin has always what it needs. Most often than not your skin "shows" what the problem is, if you are not sure, you can ask your dermatologist. My skin is sensitive, combination and acne prone and that means I have tried a lot of products throughout the years. So after years of self-experimentation, I present to you my latest advice for summer time skin perfection, my 3-5 steps routine. I would like to know if you have tried any of these and of course if you have something that works better! I am always on the lookout for something even better so leave links below!

1. Sunscreen! Of course, we start with protection. There is nothing more important than protecting your skin from the sun, especially during the summer. Anthelios AC SPF 30 Matte Fluid ANTI-SHINE by La Roche-Posay stole my heart when I tried it on my hand at the pharmacist. It can act as a mattifying primer under your makeup! When it's too hot outside I prefer not to wear makeup or opt for just eye makeup, lips and bare skin but I never skip my sunscreen and you shouldn't either!

2. Exfoliate!Exterminate those dead skin cells. I have already posted about full body exfoliation (which is equally important) but this is different. While there are a lot of creams on the market I like to use a recipe of my own (well, the internet helped) that includes Argan Oil. You can find the recipe here. For variation instead of sugar, I may use the coffee scrub by Scrub Love I use on my body. I find it gentler than sugar, smells better and I get all the benefits of the actual coffee scrub. During summer I exfoliate once every week or every two weeks, depends on my acne. I try to annoy my skin as less as possible.

3. Always remove your makeup. You already know why this is important, especially if you wear a full face of makeup, I don't need to get into details. I have a whole post about this product here. It is still a favourite.

4. Wash gently. With sensitive skin and acne prone you really need to be gentle. I actually like to use the 3-step-system for acne prone skin by Clinique (get it here).  I recently purchased these because I had an acne "attack" and has changed my skin. The soap can be used as a makeup remover, so the days I wear light makeup I skip the micellar water.

5. Hydrate DUH. This is the second most important step. Besides drinking a lot of water your skin will need the extra hydration a good face cream has to offer. Since it's summer and my skin is oily though I prefer using the lotion from the Clinique system most days. If your skin feels especially tight or after spending a day at the beach you can use a few drops of Argan Oil. I personally leave it on for 15minutes or so and then rinse with cold water and pat my face dry with a clean towel.

The combination of the scrub and honey and cinnamon just make me want to eat it. I have to keep reminding myself that it's not cookies. And here are some embarrassing photos of me while a wait some minutes for the oils to get absorbed by my skin.

Unless you live under a rock you know micellar water is all the rage lately. The whole youtube beauty community is swearing by this or that micelar water and even big companies like Garnier, Maybelline, L'Oreal and Sephora have joined the trend by creating their own version of the product. But all the big names have one thing in common: too many ingredients. What is the point of having so so many ingredients for something that is supposed to be as close to water as possible? This is where Skintifique comes in. Skintifique is the company you've never heard before but will change your life, or at least your skin. In case you missed my many, many twitter rants: my skin sucks! It's oily at the center, dry like a desert at spots and as soon as the weather gets cold my skin decides to get flaky. Did I mention it is acne prone and sensitive? With that in mind, Skintifique 's products seemed like the perfect solution, but where they? I have put their micellar water Cleanser-P to test.Don't skip the verdict I have a surprise for you!)

  1. Only 5 ingredients. But why would you care about ingredients, you (and I) can't pronounce half of them either way. Just because we don't know what each one means doesn't mean that our skin doesn't get affected. Now the good thing about having few ingredients is that, if you have sensitive skin and are prone to allergies (like me), it will be easier for you to determine if this will react well with your skin. Since my skin is such a mess and I have eczema on my hands, I have learned to avoid certain ingredients as directed by my doctor. You can find the ingredients on the product page.
  2. It actually removes your makeup without needing to rub your skin off. I tried it during the holidays so I was often found wearing tons of makeup, sometimes waterproof. My problem with every other micellar water was that I had to rub and rub until my makeup was removed. That did a number on my already fragile skin. I was usually left with my skin feeling tight and irritated. What I do now is remove the most with two-three gentle swipes with my cotton pad (depends on how much makeup you are wearing) and then do a final swipe with a new cotton pad, to clean up whatever is left. Case in point: see the photos underneath.
  3. It hydrates your skin. To be exact it doesn't leave my skin feeling tight. So far when I used anything to remove my makeup I had to at least rinse the product off, but I can leave this micellar water on my skin and it will be fine.
  4. My acne receded. This is a personal observation though, but I guess it has to do with the ingredients being so carefully picked for sensitive skin. Since I haven't changed anything else in my routine or diet I "blame" skintifique for this pleasant change.
  5. It is cruelty free! While I do use products from companies that sell in China (and therefore are obligated to test on animals) I really appreciate and prefer cruelty free brands whenever possible. I haven't found this quality and effectiveness in cruelty free products before.

Here is a test with my 5 tougher makeup products to remove.  I swatched them and left them on my skin for 30 minutes. I tried the Cleanser P on half the swatches using a cotton ball.
  • Gel liner:Obviously one of the tough things to remove
  • Loaded Bolds colours stain my lips and skin. I love them, they stay on the lips, but they stain and are a pain to remove.
  • Superstay JUST DOESN'T GET OFF. Legit I can sleep with this and wake up and my pillow will be clean. Doesn't budge.
  • Tulle , ok this isn't as bulletproof as superstay, but when I swipe to remove it, it transfers all over my face (usually).
  • Kween: It's hard to remove because glitter goes everywhere. Understandable, but it had to be included because glitter.

This is what I'm talking about! Didn't do so well with the glitter since I have some glitter transfer as I swiped and obviously the Superstay (I warned you about it)

I think the difference is obvious. This is the micellar water I used in the past, from a well known brand that will remain anonymous. It transferred the Blackest Berry to the rest of my arm and failed to remove the gel liner and the rest of the swatches.

spotlights on the redhead, anna keni, anna, skintifique, makeup, remover, micellar, water, cruelty free, cleanser p
Verdict: Cleanser P is a winner! I really didn't expect this product to work this well. With the price being so low, I will buy it. It has helped my skin and that alone is a huge plus for me. I'm replacing my micellar water with this, once I finish what I already have. I really think if you have skin issues you should try out their products. This is why I contacted the company and have a discount code for you (yes, I do get a commission but if you want to try them out it also saves you money)! Remember that song that goes like "I don't want no scrubs..."? Well girl if you just got back from vacations then yes you want a scrub and what's more important you NEED one. I know I do, mostly because on vacation I totally neglected my skincare. Like, who has time to scrub and hydrate when you can spend all day at the beach and then go clubbing? Unfortunately now I have to go the extra mile to prepare my skin for winter, because it screams "MOISTURIZE ME" at me! (Totally worth it, I regret nothing!). So, let me give you tips and tricks to go back to baby smooth exfoliated skin. (Seriously, who thought "baby smooth"?It's really creepy saying that)

I am using 2 things to exfoliate my skin: a coffee scrub by Scrub Love and Lé Edge.

  • Lé Edge is a personal exfoliation tool for the face and body, basically is a stainless steel edge that scrapes off the dead skin cells. I didn't try it on my face but I did see results on my legs. I showcase both of the products on a portion of my leg but I did try them on my whole body so that I can actually talk about results. I used Lé Edge after rinsing off the coffee scrub so that it would complement the results of the scrub and remove and dead cells lifted by the scrub that I didn't completely remove. Gross fact, I did see some of my ingrown hair being freed after using this so that means it works as advertised. I was really skeptical about this product as I have never tried something similar. If ingrown hair is a problem that concerns you, or if you don't want to use scrubs for whatever reason then I suggest you invest on this or something similar. I don't recommend it being used on plain wet skin though, I tried it and it was kinda rough for me. However, combined with a soap or oily substance it's pretty good. For more details head over to their site!

  • Coffee Scrub, I have a lot to say about this product. When you open the package the smell of coffee and orange fills the place. I really liked that! I usually used scrubs that were in the form of a cream, so this was a first. This scrub is how you see it below. You can read their 100% organic ingredients here. I used it on wet skin and the results were impressive. The natural oil in the ingredients really helped with the scrubbing and it helped make my skin so soft! It comes with instructions but I kind of didn't follow them exactly. I applied it after my bath, so my skin was wet, rubbed, left it on for a while and then rinsed. Like I said part the ingredients is oil (almond and orange) so you either have to wait a bit for the oil to be absorbed by your skin as much as possible, or use soap to remove it completely. I suggest to wait so don't do this before going out. I did use this on my face as well. My skin is combination to oily but when I woke up next morning it was fine (unless my pillow got it all). Washed my face and I was ready for my makeup routine. This product, I will buy again and again and I recommend it 100% (unless you are allergic to any of the ingredients obviously). One thing I didn't like is that I can't reseal the package. It seems to have a stripe for it but it was covered in coffee scrub so I can't be sure if that's what it was. Maybe the company will think about that in the future, it's useful.
Final thoughts and results:I will definitely keep on using the Scrub Love often, but the Lé Edge was a bit harsh on my skin, so I will use it less frequently, if my skin get really rough or I have ingrown hair.

...Buy more of it! Remember the dress from my last post? This one is identical design with a different print. I liked it so I bought 3 same dresses, this one, the red one and one with blue stripes. This time the dress is paired with blue high heels but I have fewer accessories on so it still isn't too much for early drinks for example. The truth is you CAN tone down almost any clothing piece using the right accessories and makeup, same way you can elevate one to fit the occasion. The "art of styling" isn't just about the clothes, it's the accessories, the hair, the makeup the shoes etc. Even your attitude can "change" anything you wear. Especially nowadays with so many choices for women, there is no way you won't find something appropriate for anything. (Seriously, if you need help inbox my Facebook page.I'll gladly help you out.)
Again I must thank these awesome people for this photo shoot! First the awesome photographer, Thanos Levidiotis! Secondly, the talented makeup artist Penelope Karamoutsiou her youtube channel here!!

Imagine visiting your hair stylist and being groomed by a Pierrot or a skeleton! That’s exactly what happened when I visited my hairdresser last weekend! Colorists and hairstylists of Gino Hairandmore coiffures were transformed into Pantomime street artists, skeletons and Pierrots!
The talented make-up students of the IEK Xini College designed unique make-up looks using colour and face painting techniques to achieve the festive look of the personnel. And I loved it! Luckily they didn't dress any of them like Sweeney Todd or Edward Scissorhands cause that'd probably make the customers run!I didn't dress up this year so this was as close as I got to the festivities! But damn did I love watching the students working their magic. As you well know, I am not that good with makeup of any kind, so watching them doing their magic just left me in awe. Seriously, it needs talent, and a steady hand and imagination and so much practice, I have infinite respect for makeup artists. They rock!

Hello my lovelies! You might have noticed me tagging Irresistible Me in several photos where I had gorgeous hair, because most of the time my hair suck. Anyway I think it's about time I talked about the equipment that gave me so amazing hair and to give you quick tips on how to create my favourite hairstyle using it. This post will be tiresome because my usual wall of text will be split under the photos in order to give you a better understanding. I know it'd be easier to do this with a video, I tried and failed miserably. I completely suck at videos but I will practice.

Le box the curler came in.It has instructions inside and everything else you need.

The case!Isn't this neat and tidy?

Easiest way not to lose anything.

And a spread of the barrel attachments. The glove to protect your hand and a small stand to rest the curler while you use it were included. All in all the Sapphire has everything you might need inside.

Why I like it:
I can set the temperature and it heats up FAST! That is absolutely true. It had the protective glove! We all have had at least one accident with our styling devices.I love a company who gets that and helps us protect ourselves. Not to mention the small stand to leave the device while it's hot!It was a constant anxiety that it will fall down and burn something but with this little thing, it isn't moving! Now this will sound weird, but my hair are so soft after I use this.I can't explain it, after I blow dry them or straighten them they feel dull and dry (I used the same oils and quantities in every case) and after I curl them they are lively and shiny and bouncy (maybe it's the curls and my imagination). All in all, it's an item well worth it's money. If you curl your hair often you should invest in something good and this just might be it. They have everything from hair extensions to hair tools, it is well worth it to check them out.

And now let's start with  my hair. This is the before photo. They are completely dry, brushed and I have applied a heat protecting oil.

Part your hair in 2 sections (doing the appropriate grimace) and start from the bottom. As my hair are shorter there, I'm using a smaller size for that section and bigger for the upper.

And we're curling.Take small sections of hair and do not keep it for long.I usually wait for 5-10 seconds max.

And when you are done, you will have to wait a few minutes for your hair to cool down. Give it like 15', depends on your hair type mostly and what temperature you used. After they cool down take a wide tooth comb and separate the curls.

You can use your hands to do this step if you don't have a wide tooth comb.Et voilà!!

This is the final result. You can use hairspray to secure it and help it last for hours.Last time I did this it lasted for two days (without hairspray).

(Now that that's over, can we talk about my contouring?I feel like a pro!I'll need to talk about that too at some point.)
